Forgotten Runiverse Jumps to Ronin: A New Era Begins

Forgotten Runiverse, a fantasy role-playing game, is set to migrate to the Ethereum sidechain Ronin. This move was announced by developers Bisonic, Inc. and Magic Machine on Wednesday. Known for its vibrant NFT project-based gameplay, Forgotten Runiverse joins a growing list of games adopting Ronin, a network that gained popularity with titles like Axie Infinity and Pixels.

Forgotten Runiverse is a free-to-play, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) deeply integrated with the Ethereum NFT collection, Forgotten Runes: Wizard’s Cult. The game offers a rich tapestry of features that allows players to form guilds, embark on player-vs-environment expeditions, engage in player-vs-player combat, and craft items using resources from the game world.

Previously under development on Arbitrum, another Ethereum scaling solution, Forgotten Runiverse’s transition to Ronin is not an isolated event. Over the past year, other notable crypto games like the role-playing game Kaidro and the aforementioned Pixels have also moved to Ronin, drawn by its robust community and technological infrastructure.

Sky Mavis, the creator of Ronin, expressed enthusiasm about the migration. Trung Nguyen, co-founder and CEO of Sky Mavis, highlighted that “The Forgotten Runiverse’s vision of building a game that enables the community to interact in meaningful ways through shared experiences, storytelling, and adventure resonates with the Ronin community. We are thrilled to see this genre and gameplay experience come to our community and welcome The Cult into the Ronin ecosystem.”

The transition to Ronin will officially kick off with a closed beta event on July 31, followed by a public gameplay event in August. This pre-alpha “New Foundations” event will not only allow players to mint and build on plots but also offer mintable gameplay rewards, adding a layer of exclusivity and engagement to the early adopters.

As part of the transition, all game-centric Forgotten Runiverse NFT collections will migrate to Ronin. Additionally, plans are in place for the game to launch on the Epic Game Store later this year, with further optimizations for mobile devices, making it accessible to a wider audience.

This move represents a significant evolution in the gaming and blockchain space, promising enhanced experiences for players and a stronger, more integrated community on the Ronin network.
