Solana Labs Opens Pre-Orders for New Smartphones After Rapid Sellout of First Edition

Solana (SOL) Labs is commencing pre-orders for the latest iteration of its cryptocurrency-focused smartphone, just weeks after the initial edition created a buying frenzy and promptly sold out.

Solana Mobile is extending an opportunity to customers through its “Founder Window,” allowing them to reserve the upcoming “Chapter 2” phone with a deposit of $450. The project anticipates shipping these new devices during the first half of 2025. Solana Mobile aims to have the $450 deposit cover the entire cost of the phone, excluding taxes, shipping, and associated fees.

The company has set an ambitious target of securing 100,000 pre-orders. Should this goal not be met, Solana Mobile reserves the right to reconsider the phone’s release, promising to refund deposits if necessary. Solana, often considered a rival to Ethereum (ETH), introduced the initial version of its smartphone, Saga, back in April.

December brought an exciting announcement from Solana Mobile, revealing that its web3-enabled phones had sold out rapidly. An interesting incentive possibly contributing to this surge in sales was the offer of free Bonk (BONK), a Solana-based cryptocurrency akin to Dogecoin (DOGE), to those purchasing a Saga device, as stated on the project’s website.

The decentralized finance (DeFi) crypto wallet Phantom disclosed that the reward amounted to a staggering 30 million BONK, a collection that reached a value of up to $630 in December, coinciding with a surge in the meme coin’s price. Notably, the price of the Saga phone had been reduced to $599 in August.
