A new charity NFT project, launched Friday, invites art enthusiasts to support families impacted by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The “I Heart LA” collection combines digital art with philanthropy, with all proceeds going to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency supplies to displaced families.
The collection is curated by Web3 fashion startup mmERCH and features works from seven prominent artists:
- Larva Labs (creator of CryptoPunks)
- Grant Yun
- Gremplin (creator of CrypToadz)
- Nice Aunties
- Chikai
- ClownVamp
- Goyong
How It Works
The NFTs are minted on the Ethereum blockchain, with each buyer receiving one randomly selected piece from the collection. The artwork is available for purchase from January 17-19 for 0.0069 ETH (approximately $24) via highlight.xyz.
All proceeds will directly benefit Baby2Baby, which has already distributed over 3 million emergency supplies to families affected by the wildfires, including diapers, formula, food, and hygiene products.
Harnessing Web3 for Impact
Colby Mugrabi, founder and CEO of mmERCH, emphasized the importance of using blockchain technology to drive meaningful change.
“It’s impossible to not be affected by what’s happening in Los Angeles,” Mugrabi said in a statement. “Just amongst our team, we have dozens of friends, collaborators, and colleagues who have been directly impacted by this sequence of horrific events.”
Mugrabi added, “We quickly realized that there was an opportunity to harness the power of digital assets and blockchain technology to have a direct and immediate impact on fundraising efforts.”
A Unique Blend of Art and Aid
The “I Heart LA” collection exemplifies how Web3 technology can facilitate creative solutions to real-world problems. By bringing together renowned artists and leveraging blockchain for transparency, the project aims to make a lasting impact on the Los Angeles community during a time of crisis.
