Parallel Studios Unveils “Project Tau Ceti”

The creators of the Ethereum NFT card game Parallel, which debuted on the Epic Games Store in June, have announced their latest venture—a 3D first-person shooter game codenamed “Project Tau Ceti.” The announcement was made at Token2049 in Singapore on Wednesday.

A New Venture into Sci-Fi Gaming

In “Project Tau Ceti,” players will dive into a sci-fi planet, battling it out using their Parallel NFT avatars. This marks a notable shift from their previous AI-centric game, Colony, set to launch on the Solana blockchain. Bringing the focus back to Ethereum’s layer-2 network, Base, specifically on the newly launched B3 layer-3 gaming network.

Choosing B3 for Gaming Excellence

A spokesperson from Parallel Studios highlighted the strategic decision to partner with B3, stating, “B3 has the right mixture of technology and team experience to support what we’re looking for. B3 is putting the focus on games, and as the hottest new network on Base, this felt like the right choice for us.”

B3.fun, which launched in August, came into being after its development team, NFC Labs—founded by former Coinbase employees—secured a $21 million investment in July. The network started strong with a web-based crypto arcade platform, BSMNT.

Expanding the Parallel Universe

Parallel Studios has established a strong presence on Ethereum and Base with its crypto-infused competitive card battler, Parallel, which is free to play but features optional NFT cards that players can collect, trade, and earn crypto token rewards.

Project Tau Ceti, however, represents a bold expansion into a different genre. “Not long ago, our art team got together to imagine what a shooter game set in the Parallel universe could look like,” the team shared in a pre-alpha trailer. The concept, which began as a side project, quickly evolved into a major development fueled by positive community feedback.

Development and Expectations

Using Parallel’s library of 3D assets, including characters, weapons, and creatures, the game aims to offer an expansive new gaming experience. Developed in collaboration with an unnamed third-party studio and utilizing Unreal Engine 5, Project Tau Ceti promises to deliver detailed environments, challenging enemies, and unique creatures that enhance the Parallel world.

While the focus continues on their TCG and the alpha release of Colony, Parallel Studios is also pushing ahead with Project Tau Ceti. The game is slated for early alpha testing on PC in 2025, with plans for future mobile and console versions.

Project Tau Ceti stands out as Parallel Studios’ ambitious step to broaden their gaming portfolio and deepen the engagement of their community. As the game moves toward its alpha launch, both gamers and crypto enthusiasts are keenly watching, ready to explore the new terrains that Parallel promises to offer.
