Unstoppable Domains Introduces Group Chats with Badge-Gating

Unstoppable Domains has unveiled a novel group chat feature on its app, transforming how username holders connect and interact. This enhancement, launched on January 17, extends the platform’s messaging capabilities from individual conversations to dynamic group chats, introducing an innovative badge-gated access system.

Unstoppable Domains, renowned for its Web3 username protocol, enables wallet holders to register user-friendly names, simplifying interactions within the crypto community. The protocol’s latest offering, developed using the Push Protocol, further cements its position as a pioneer in Web3 communications.

Initially, Unstoppable Domains’ chat app, introduced in August, facilitated individual messaging using Web3 usernames. The latest update, however, brings the much-anticipated group messaging feature, akin to those found in popular platforms like Discord and Telegram.

The standout aspect of this new feature is the badge-gating mechanism. It allows group admins to create exclusive chat spaces where membership is determined by specific on-chain characteristics, denoted by “badges.” This approach not only fosters a sense of community but also aims to reduce misinformation by ensuring secure and verified communication channels.

Sandy Carter, COO of Unstoppable Domains, elaborated on the functionality, explaining that group access can be based on diverse blockchain criteria, such as NFT ownership or educational milestones. This automated membership system is complemented by manual moderation options, giving admins complete oversight while maintaining a decentralized ethos.

As of the launch date, over 400 groups were auto-created, reflecting the existing range of Unstoppable Domains badges. The app showcases groups for various interests, including Whales, CryptoKitties holders, and Yat holders, among others. Importantly, even badge holders must opt-in to receive messages from these groups, ensuring user control and privacy.

This development marks a significant step in Web3’s evolution, offering a more structured and secure communication platform for the crypto community. It not only enhances user experience but also aligns with the broader vision of a decentralized and user-centric digital ecosystem.
