HashKey Capital brought the history of cryptocurrency to life at Token2049 with an immersive theater experience called Decode: Legacy. Hosted at Singapore’s iconic Raffles Hotel, the event broke away from traditional crypto gatherings. Instead of the usual cocktails and panel discussions, attendees embarked on a journey highlighting the vast influence and potential of blockchain technology.
“Our objective was to deliver an experience that went beyond the ordinary,” HashKey Capital CEO Deng Chao explained. “We wanted to immerse attendees in the narrative of crypto’s evolution in a way that felt both tangible and meaningful.”
An Immersive Crypto Experience
Blending Culture and Innovation
Siya Yang, Head of Marketing at HashKey Capital, told Decrypt, “We wanted to create a cultural experience for everyone to think about why we’re still building in this industry, 16 years after Bitcoin’s invention.” The event combined culture, arts, and Web3, offering guests a time-traveling quest through pivotal moments in crypto history.
Solving Satoshi’s Puzzles
Participants journeyed through significant milestones: the invention of Bitcoin, Ethereum’s launch, the ICO boom, DeFi summer, the FTX collapse, and recent ETF approvals. They solved puzzles to unlock the vault of Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. The finale featured crypto celebrity Brock Pierce, co-founder of Blockchain Capital and Tether.
Collaboration at the Core
Uniting the Blockchain Community
Victor Yu, COO of CARV, described the event as one that “highlighted the collaborative spirit at the heart of the blockchain community.” That spirit extended beyond the event itself. Yang noted that the event was not-for-profit, with all proceeds donated to local charities focusing on education, poverty, and the environment.
Overwhelming Demand
With a capacity of just 150 VIP participants, the event was oversubscribed. “We received many requests from friends and outer circles asking for tickets,” Yang said. Plans are underway to take the event global, including at the Hong Kong Web3 Festival in 2025. “Next year, we’re taking it to a higher standard, to a retail level, so everyone can buy a ticket and see the show themselves,” she added.
HashKey Space and Beyond
Fostering Industry Collaboration
Alongside Decode: Legacy, HashKey hosted its flagship event HashKey Space. This invite-only gathering brought together leaders from across the crypto space, including speakers from the Solana Foundation, Blockdaemon, and Animoca Brands. Topics ranged from the Bitcoin and Solana ecosystems to DePIN, AI, and talent solutions in the decentralized era.
Expanding Global Footprint
“We want to provide a platform for companies in the HashKey ecosystem to collaborate,” Yang said. “Everyone is building, busily and happily, and very confident about the industry.”
HashKey is also expanding its global business. Having become the first licensed crypto trading exchange to serve retail users in Hong Kong last year, it received regulatory approval to launch futures trading this year. “We have the HashKey exchange in Hong Kong and HashKey Global for the global business,” Yang said. “Our OTC business is entering the Japanese and Middle East markets, acquiring licenses.”
Innovating Investment Solutions
HashKey Capital has launched three custom indices to track digital assets worldwide, in collaboration with FTSE Russell. “We’re also launching three index funds based on those indices,” Yang added.
HashKey Capital’s Decode: Legacy was more than an event; it was a celebration of crypto’s journey and a glimpse into its future. By blending culture, art, and technology, HashKey is fostering a positive image for blockchain and the crypto industry. As Yang put it, “We want to do as much good as possible, collaborate with others, and create a positive image for blockchain and crypto.”
