Ethereum Game Moonray Expands

The developers behind the Ethereum action game Moonray are broadening their horizons with the introduction of a mobile auto-battler set to launch in early 2025. This new game aims to complement their existing flagship battle arena game by offering a different gameplay experience within the same “post-human” universe.

Strategic Gameplay Meets Blockchain Integration

Auto-battlers, also known as “auto chess” games, involve placing characters on a board where they automatically battle against opponents. This genre blends strategy with passive gameplay elements, exemplified by Riot’s popular Teamfight Tactics. However, Moonray’s new entry promises deeper layers of resource management and strategic counterplay, alongside full Web3 integration.

Tying Into the Moonray Universe

The mobile game will share assets with the original PC title, which first launched in early access on the Epic Games Store in July. Moonray has also ventured into graphic novels, enriching the lore of its universe with titles such as “Mother’s Skin” and the recent “Echoes of Ascension.”

Token Integration and Competitive Rewards

Moonray’s upcoming mobile game will also integrate the MNRY token, which is set to launch soon. This token will not only serve as a reward for tournament winners but will also unlock special content within the game, enhancing the overall player experience and incentivizing competitive play.

From Bitcoin’s Stacks to Ethereum

Initially developed on the Bitcoin layer-2 network Stacks, Moonray shifted to Ethereum to better meet its infrastructure needs. This pivot reflects the game’s evolution from a role-playing centric approach to a focus on competitive multiplayer combat. The move to Ethereum has allowed the developers to better leverage the blockchain’s capabilities in gaming.

Future Plans and Expanded Accessibility

While the mobile auto-battler is the first major expansion within the gaming sphere for Moonray, it certainly won’t be the last. Co-founder Hans Andersson hinted at plans to explore different gaming genres to further expand the Moonray IP. In addition, Andersson revealed collaborations with the animation studio ReelFX to potentially bring the Moonray universe to life through an animated series.

Opening Up to a Wider Audience

By launching on mobile platforms, Moonray aims to make its unique “post-human” world accessible to a broader audience. Currently available only on PC, the expansion into mobile gaming is a strategic move to capture a larger share of the gaming market, allowing more players to engage with its immersive universe on their smartphones.

As Moonray continues to evolve and expand its offerings, it sets a precedent for how blockchain technologies can be integrated into diverse gaming and media projects, potentially setting the stage for a new era of decentralized entertainment.
