Digital game vendor G2A has recently expanded its offerings by launching a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) linked to Web3 games. This initiative, which commenced on November 15, aims to bring more exposure to Web3 and NFT games that the G2A team has carefully selected. The platform, named G2A Geekverse, will provide gamers with information about top Web3 games and offer them the chance to buy and sell digital assets associated with these games.
Bartosz Skwarczek, CEO of G2A Capital Group, remarked that the company has been closely observing the blockchain gaming sector since the emergence of NFT gaming projects like Cryptokitties. Contrary to some beliefs that gamers are averse to crypto, Skwarczek pointed out that a significant number of gamers are already familiar with blockchain gaming and have even participated in NFT trading from games.
The trend towards NFTs and blockchain in gaming is gaining momentum. For instance, in July 2023, the Google Play Store began accepting NFT games under certain conditions, allowing games that offer NFTs for sale or earning but prohibiting gambling with NFTs. Additionally, Epic Games, a major game developer and publisher, has shown an openness to Web3 gaming. In June, Epic Games Store listed “Gods Unchained,” an NFT collectible trading card game, and is set to include another blockchain-based game called “Illuvium” on its platform on November 28.
This move by G2A and the growing acceptance of NFTs in the gaming world indicate a significant shift in the industry, as traditional gaming distributors increasingly embrace Web3 gaming technologies.
